Ralls Centennial 2011 Online brochure

The Ralls Centennial Board is currently making preparations for the 100th celebration of Ralls, Texas.  The City was founded by J.R. Ralls in 1911. Celebratory events will begin December 30, 2010.

The Centennial Board will try to have special events throughout the year working with our existing festivals and activities.  The Centennial will begin with a New Year’s Eve Party at the Ralls Inn.  This will be a benefit for the Ralls Historical Museum.  Attendees are expected to dress up in costumes from their favorite Ralls era.   The next major events will coincide with the Ralls Chamber Banquet, Rodeo, Cotton Boll Festival and RISD Homecoming.

At the Chamber Banquet, the City is planning to present a video presentation of photos and history of Ralls, recognizing the founding fathers and early settlers.  The Centennial Board plans to incorporate the 100 year theme into the Lions Club Rodeo, Parade and Boy Scout Bar BQ.  At the Cotton Boll Festival, the plans are to bring back “old-timey” games.  Not many people know that the early settlers enjoyed playing croquette on the city lawns.  As with Ralls Homecoming, Ralls schools will also be celebrating their 100th year and the homecoming committee and Ralls ISD will plan activities. Other planned events being considered are an essay contest for Ralls students, a billboard that says “Happy Birthday Ralls”, and giant rabbit cut-outs/outdoor artwork.  The City recently had a Centennial logo contest.  The winning logo will be displayed on all City merchandise and incorporated into the design of the Centennial Fountain.

In June, the City will have a large citywide picnic on the square.  This will include a giant birthday cake, fireworks show, games, and the Centennial Fountain dedication.

The City of Ralls and the Ralls Centennial Board are currently raising funds to build a monumental fountain for the City Square to celebrate 100 years of Ralls, Texas.  The fountain will be made of Texas red and grey granite and have nine geyser fountains.  The City will also be seeking corporate and private donations, grants and special project funds to build the fountain.

The granite will be a 20 x 20 grey square with a large historical map of Texas in the center made out of Texas red granite.  The City logo and Centennial Logo will be incorporated into the design.  Nine geyser fountains will be programmed to spray water in patterns and to a light show. Each geyser will be lit at night and park benches will be placed around the project for people to enjoy.

A brick path will be laid around the granite fountain and will be engraved with the names and dates of Ralls historic events, founders, citizens, businesses, community leaders, ranch brands,     family information and much more.

Although the project is monumental and a tribute to Ralls, it will also be interactive where children can play in the fountains.  The fountain can be enjoyed not only during the day but will also be a beautiful addition to the square at night.

The City hopes that you will turn this into a family legacy project and spread the word about purchasing a brick for you and your loved ones.

The Brick Pavers are not only important to the project for raising funds to build the fountain, but also to record our local history and honor past and present citizens and their accomplishments. The City encourages citizens to purchase the bricks to mark their family’s history.   Although many families have moved away from Ralls over the years, it doesn't mean that their family didn't play a key roll in the development and history of Ralls.  We hope that you will purchase a brick in their honor and to mark their legacy.
